There are 3 hair cuts currently acceptable in the guido culture.
The Blowout
In the past decade the most notable and flashy hair style is the "blowout." A bald taper on the side burns and back of the head. The length on top is up to you. Some keep a long slicked back blowout, see Pauly D from Jersey shore. However there is a "Philly blowout." Which is a more spiked out version of the hair cut. In order to achieve this look to perfection there is only one kind of product that works. As Pauly D stated, "if you dont got spika you dont got a blowout." Ice Spiker by Joico is a product I've been using for years. You can probably find this product at a store called "Trade Secret." That's where I buy it. Otherwise it's always available to order online. In order you get the perfect blowout you must take a shower and use conditioner on your hair. Following that step immediately towel dry the hair and blow dry it up to be able to slick the hair back perfectly. The Ice Spiker tends to stick to your hands so you must add some of the paste to your hands apply it to the hair until you need more and then wash your hands, dry your hands and re-apple the glue. If you don't do this the glue that was on your hands will start to dry up and you will have white crustation's throughout your blowout. A new trend has been adding lines to the taper in the back. Similar to the power stripes on the sides of the head. (see, Vanilla Ice) But yes it can be done to give the cut a little bit of a fresher appeal. This look is not currently a popular trend among guido's. You can go to any club in Sea Side Heights or North Jersey and count the amount of blowouts you see on one hand. The look is passe' and has been since about 2007-2008. The "My New Hair Cut" youtube video is much-a-do to the demise of the once most sought after look among guido's. If you are going to rock this look you have to be prepared to hear negative comments from the haters.
The Faux Hawk
The Faux Hawk is currently trending as the most popular look among guido's. I personally sport this same look. Looks simple but achieving the perfect faux hawk is more tedious than you think. Short on the sides, tapered on the side burns and back/neck area is the simple part. Obviously there has to be enough hair to spike it. But the over looked part among novices trying to achieve the perfect faux hawk is their lack of knowledge on the "front fade." Notice how Ronnie from the Jersey Shore manages to have a perfect hair line. That's not by accident, you have got to tell your barber you want the front faded. But your barber has to be good because a little too high or not enough can make or break the cut. If you aren't understanding just show your barber a picture. As for style you can use Joico Ice Spiker and follow the same steps as I mentioned in styling a blowout. Shower with conditioner, blow dry up and kind of slick it back. Without blow drying the hair up you will get a real spikey type of look instead of the slick rico-suave type image. In addition, the power stripes can also be added to this look both on the sides and the back.
Power Stripes
Power Stripes
Notice the side of Mike "The Situations" head. He sports the power stripes. The side or back of the head are acceptable spots for the stripes. You can even go with a design if you want to get real fresh with it. The Situations hair cut is very similar to a faux hawk except its styled differently at the top and is a complete fade of the sides and back of the head. It's really just a variation of the faux hawk in a sense.
Tape Up
The tape up is a simple cut but also very clean and extremely popular among guido's. It's basically one level all the way around the head. Tapered on the side burns and back like a blow out except nothing left to spike on the top.
DISCLAIMER: Please note that in-order to achieve any of these hair styles one must go to a real barber shop! You cannot to go to Super Cuts or The Hair Cuttery to get this look. A straight razor is a must! If they aren't using a straight blade at the end of your hair cut then you need to start searching for a new barber immediately!
